Africa-Press – Sierra-Leone. His Excellency President Dr. Julius Maada Bio has expressed deep sorrow over the passing of former Nigerian President Muhammadu Buhari, who died in London at the age of 82 following a prolonged illness.

In a statement shared on his official X (formerly Twitter) account, President Bio wrote:

“I am deeply saddened to hear about the passing of President Muhammadu Buhari, the former President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria. On behalf of the people of the Republic of Sierra Leone, I want to express our heartfelt condolences to his family, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu (@officialABAT), and to the people of Nigeria during this incredibly difficult time. This is truly a devastating loss, and our thoughts are with you all.”

President Buhari, who served Nigeria with distinction both as a military leader and as a democratically elected president, leaves behind a complex but impactful legacy across the African continent.

As current Chairman of the ECOWAS Authority of Heads of State and Government, President Bio emphasized solidarity with the people of Nigeria and described the moment as “a devastating loss for West Africa.”

The Government and people of Sierra Leone stand with Nigeria in mourning the loss of one of Africa’s most prominent statesmen.
