President Bio to Reportedly Pardon APC’s Alpha Sheriff on Independence Day

Africa-Press – Sierra-Leone. Sources close to the office of His Excellency President Rtd. Brig. Dr. Julius Maada Bio have confirmed that the President will grant clemency to Alpha Sheriff, popularly known as APC Sheriff, as part of the upcoming Independence Day celebrations on April 27, 2025.

According to Rolling Stone Newspaper, this decision reflects the President’s commitment to justice tempered with mercy.

Alpha Sheriff was arrested on June 7, 2023, in Bo City while campaigning alongside the then-presidential running mate of the All Peoples Congress (APC), Hon. Chernor Ramadan Maju Bah.

He faced multiple charges, including unlawful possession of a small arm without a license, concealing an arm unlawfully, and operating a security agency without a license. After being charged on July 21, 2023, Sheriff has since cooperated fully with law enforcement and is recognized as a first-time offender.

In a gesture aimed at promoting national unity, President Bio has reportedly included Sheriff’s name on the list of prisoners to be released in conjunction with Sierra Leone’s Independence Day, in accordance with the provisions of the 1991 Constitution of Sierra Leone, Act 6, 1991. Credible sources indicate that preparations are underway to implement this pardon.

The case against Alpha Sheriff has been under judicial consideration since the closure of proceedings on May 28, 2024. The matter is scheduled to return to court on April 25, 2025, where Justice Adrian Fisher is expected to deliver a judgment.
