Sam-Sumana Seeks APC Flagbearer Nomination for 2028

Africa-Press – Sierra-Leone. Sierra Leone’s former Vice President, Chief Alhaji Samuel Sam-Sumana, has officially declared his ambition to contest for the All People’s Congress (APC) flagbearer position ahead of the 2028 general elections.

Speaking on Wednesday, August 3, 2025, Sam-Sumana underscored his unwavering commitment to the APC, while at the same time raising concerns about the party’s recently adopted constitution. According to him, the new framework poses restrictions that could undermine the political rights of members aspiring for leadership roles.

He stressed that the Sierra Leone Constitution guarantees every citizen the right to vie for any public or political office, a standard he insists should be mirrored in the party’s internal processes. The former Vice President therefore urged the APC leadership to revisit its constitution to ensure greater inclusivity and fairness.

Sam-Sumana also addressed questions surrounding his membership status and eligibility, making it clear that he is qualified to seek the party’s highest ticket. He further cautioned that if the current provisions are not reviewed to allow a level playing field, he would consider seeking redress through appropriate channels.

Despite his past disputes with the APC, Sam-Sumana reassured party members of his loyalty and dedication, positioning himself as a unifying figure ready to contribute to the party’s return to power in 2028.
