Africa-Press – Sierra-Leone. Chief Minister Dr. David Moinina Sengeh and Vice President Dr. Mohamed Juldeh Jalloh represented Sierra Leone at the 4th International Conference on Financing for Development (FFD4) held in Seville, Spain.
The conference brought together 27 Heads of State and Government, along with key figures such as the UN Secretary General and the President of the EU Council, to discuss strategies for fostering a more inclusive and just society.
During a high-level side event organized by Global Citizen Now, Vice President Jalloh asserted the urgent need for effective financial strategies to address the widening financing gap facing the Global South.
He noted that the precarious situation of these nations has been worsened by a rapid contraction of development aid. “Countries must learn from Sierra Leone’s experience and build stronger regulatory, financial, and governance frameworks to attract private sector investment,” Jalloh stated.
The Vice President emphasized the importance of aligning aid strategies with private investment. He urged nations to rationalize their aid portfolios, ensuring that development assistance complements rather than competes with private investment. “It is crucial that we align our aid strategies to foster an environment where private sector investment can thrive,” he articulated.
“I was encouraged by the support from other panelists including the Gates Foundation CEO Mark Suzman on the strategy I presented to accelerate inclusive and equitable development in a changing global context,” Jalloh concluded.
