Africa-Press – Sierra-Leone. The Sierra Leone Karate Association, led by National President Victor Amara, has presented medals and trophies to the Executive Director of the National Sports Authority (NSA), Dr. Emmanuel Saffa Abdulai, in recognition of the Authority’s continued support towards the growth and development of sporting associations. On Friday, 14th November 2025.
The engagement took place at the NSA headquarters, where members of the karate community showcased their achievements from recent national and international competitions.
Steven Keifala, Director of Participation and Sustainable Sports, formally received the delegation on behalf of the NSA. He welcomed the karate team and commended them for their outstanding performances and commitment to excellence, noting that their consistency has been instrumental in raising Sierra Leone’s profile in martial arts.
Presenting the athletes and trophies, Karate President Victor Amara highlighted the various championships the association has participated in and the remarkable successes they have recorded. He acknowledged the role of the NSA in providing administrative and technical support that has contributed to the association’s growth.
In his remarks, Dr. Emmanuel Saffa Abdulai reaffirmed that the National Sports Authority remains the sole statutory government institution in Sierra Leone mandated to develop, promote, and regulate all sporting associations in the country under the supervision of the Ministry of Sports.
He applauded the Karate Association for its achievements, especially the increasing participation of young girls and women in martial arts, a development that is aligned with President Bio’s commitment to gender equality in sports. Dr. Abdulai emphasized that the NSA, which receives and disburses government funding for sporting associations, will continue to support well-organized and properly governed associations.
Dr. Abdulai also shared his personal connection to martial arts, recalling his background in karate and taekwondo in the 1990s and his early interactions with Victor Amara, whom he praised as “one of the finest talents Sierra Leone has produced.” He expressed pride that Amara now leads the association to greater national and international recognition.
Finally, the NSA Executive Director reiterated the Authority’s commitment to fulfilling its statutory responsibilities and encouraged all sporting associations to work closely with the NSA to strengthen and promote sports development in Sierra Leone.
