Africa-Press – Sierra-Leone. Statistics Sierra Leone (Stats SL) has reported a significant decrease in the annual inflation rate, falling from 13.09% in February to 10.71% in March 2025.

This marks a 2.38 percentage point drop, indicating a notable improvement in the country’s economic stability.

The latest Consumer Price Index (CPI) report from Stats SL also reveals a decrease in monthly inflation, which fell from 0.93% in February to 0.24% in March 2025. The annual inflation rate of 10.71% in March represents a substantial decline compared to the 40.69% recorded in March 2024.

According to the reports, some of the contributing factors to the decline include Housing, Gas, Water, and electricity sectors which annual inflation rate fall by 5.81 percentage points, from 11.45% in February to 5.64% in March. Inflation in Restaurants and Hotels also dropped by 4.40 percentage points, from 25.86% to 21.46%.

The annual national inflation rate fell to 10.71% in March 2025, marking a great decline from 13.09% in February and a dramatic drop from 40.69% recorded in March 2024. The latest Consumer Price Index (CPI) report released by Statistics Sierra Leone (Stats SL) shows continued improvement in the economic stability of the country.

This 2.38 percentage point decrease is part of a consistent downward trend that began earlier this year, reflecting the positive impact of ongoing fiscal and monetary reforms. Monthly inflation also eased, dropping from 0.93% in February to 0.24% in March 2025.

However, some areas still faced price inflation like Furnishings, Household Equipment and Routine Household Maintenance, rose from 12.04% in February to 17.06% in March which has an increase of 5.02 percentage points. Alcoholic Beverages, Tobacco and Narcotics saw a modest increase from 10.23% to 11.61%.

Statistics Sierra Leone says five regions benefited from the decrease in inflation: Western Region decreased from 16.48% to 13.02%, Northern Region, decreased from 12.41% to 10.94%, North-West Region decreased from 11.23% to 9.04%, Eastern Region, decreased from 9.00% to 7.87%, Southern Region decreased from 8.62% to 7.43%

According to Stats SL, the decrease has spread across seven major COICOP divisions and all five regions. Food inflation is said to have reached a five-year low and its impact has been reduced fourfold over the past year.
