SLCAA Works to Remove Sierra Leone from UK Safety List

Africa-Press – Sierra-Leone. The Sierra Leone Civil Aviation Authority (SLCAA) has announced the launch of a strategic capacity-building project led by the United Kingdom’s Department for Transport (DfT) and implemented through the UK Civil Aviation Authority International (UKCAAi).

The initiative aims to support Sierra Leone’s efforts toward eventual removal from the UK Safety List.

A multi-agency coordination group has been established to prepare for the UKCAAi team’s first official mission to Sierra Leone, scheduled for 1–4 December 2025. The mission will evaluate key elements of the country’s aviation safety oversight system, provide technical assistance, and identify priority areas for improvement.

The Director General of SLCAA described the partnership as a major milestone in strengthening Sierra Leone’s commitment to international aviation safety standards. The mission will include technical meetings, on-site assessments, and consultations with key aviation stakeholders, with the findings expected to inform future capacity-building programmes.

SLCAA expressed gratitude to the UK Department for Transport and UKCAAi, noting that the initiative will support efforts to enhance aviation safety and reinforce the sector’s regulatory framework.

Partner institutions involved in the coordination include the Ministry of Transport and Aviation, the Ministry of Information and Civic Education, the Office of the President, the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO), and the UK Civil Aviation Authority.
