Her Excellency Dr. Fatima Maada Bio on Tuesday attended the Opening Ceremony of the 23rd Edition of the International Conference on AIDS and Sexually Transmitted Infections in Africa (ICASA), a major continental platform dedicated to advancing public health and strengthening the fight against HIV, AIDS, Hepatitis B, and other sexually transmitted infections.
The First Lady of Sierra Leone, who also serves as President of the Organisation of African First Ladies for Development (OAFLAD), described her participation as an honour and emphasized the critical importance of collective action in addressing Africa’s pressing health challenges.
Dr. Bio noted that ICASA continues to serve as a powerful reminder of the urgent need for sustained collaboration, resilient health systems, and equitable access to lifesaving services for all. She reaffirmed her commitment, through OAFLAD, to advocating for mothers, children, families, and vulnerable populations across the continent.
She added that her focus remains on ensuring that ongoing efforts drive Africa closer to a future where preventable infections no longer undermine the wellbeing or potential of its people.
The First Lady stressed that with strong leadership, shared responsibility, and unwavering dedication, Africa can build a healthier, safer, and more resilient continent for generations to come.
