Africa-Press – Sierra-Leone. Officials of the Sierra Leone Football Association (SLFA) are facing serious allegations of electoral manipulation at the district level following a controversial election process.
Sorie Ibrahim Sesay, the Head of Competitions at SLFA, has been accused of interfering in the Karena District Football Association election, raising significant concerns within the football community.
Despite the existence of an independent Electoral Committee, democratically elected to oversee such elections, Sesay and other SLFA staff were reportedly involved in conducting the district elections. This has led to questions about the legitimacy of their involvement.
Irregularities were evident during the election, which featured only one candidate, Dauda F. Conteh, a known supporter of SLFA President Thomas Daddy Brima. Allegations have surfaced that the image of another candidate, Abdul Kandeh Turay, was removed from voting materials.
Initially scheduled for June 10, 2025, the election was postponed due to misconduct by SLFA officials, who were not supposed to participate in the electoral process. A press release issued on June 10 announced that the election would be rescheduled for June 11 in Makeni, a move many believe was orchestrated to ensure a favorable outcome for Conteh.
Reports from the Makeni voting venue indicate that it was nearly empty, with only one candidate listed on the ballot. Frustrated candidates and delegates have since reported the situation to the police. Sources confirm that law enforcement officers visited the Sahara Hotel in Makeni to investigate, but Sesay and other implicated officials were not present.
