Africa-Press – Sierra-Leone. Presidential Spokesman Alpha Kanu says the Sierra Leone People’s Party (SLPP) government has done more for Sierra Leone’s development than the previous All People’s Congress (APC) government.
He explained that under the leadership of President Julius Maada Bio and former President Ahmad Tejan Kabbah, the SLPP played a key role in ending the country’s civil war. Kanu said the peace talks with Foday Sankoh, who led a violent rebel group for nearly eleven years, along with the military, helped bring lasting peace to Sierra Leone.
Kanu said it was President Bio who took the bold step to find Foday Sankoh and open dialogue with him to stop the fighting. He described this as a critical move that helped put an end to the conflict.
Besides peace efforts, Kanu spoke about other achievements by the SLPP government. He said President Bio has introduced free education to give more children the chance to learn. He added that the government has helped the country recover from crises and restored Sierra Leone’s standing in the international community, including gaining a seat on the United Nations Security Council.
Kanu also mentioned the “Feed Salone” initiative, a program aimed at supporting food production and helping communities across Sierra Leone. He said this shows how the SLPP focuses on programs that benefit ordinary people, going beyond what the previous APC government managed.
Kanu said the SLPP’s strength also lies in promoting national unity, peace, and cooperation, which he believes are key to the country’s continued growth. He said these qualities are important for the country’s continued growth and stability.
