Africa-Press – Sierra-Leone. The National Public Relations Officer (PRO) of the Sierra Leone People’s Party (SLPP), Moses Mambu, has defended his party’s National Chairman, stating that his recent remarks were taken out of context and did not in any way promote violence or call for war in Sierra Leone.
Speaking in an exclusive interview with Truth Media, Mr. Mambu said the civil society organizations that jointly issued a press release condemning the SLPP chairman’s statement are not neutral, claiming that they are “APC-leaning” groups rather than independent civic actors.
“We have already put out our own press release, but first of all, the so-called civil society that came together to issue theirs are not genuine civil society organizations.
He went on to reference a previous incident involving Hon. Abdul Kargbo (AKK), who, according to Mambu, made inflammatory remarks on Liberty Online TV long before the SLPP’s recent national convention.
“Prior to the statement made by Jimmy Batilo Songa, Hon. AKK had called for war on Liberty Online TV, saying that if the 2028 elections go like that of 2023, there will be war in this country. What did these same civil society organizations do then? Nothing,” Mambu questioned.
Quoting a popular saying, the SLPP PRO added:
“What’s good for the goose should also be good for the gander. If AKK’s statement did not attract condemnation, why should our chairman’s statement-made within context-be treated differently?”
Mr. Mambu concluded that the intention behind the civil society press release was to discredit the ruling party.
“Their aim was to hit the SLPP. But if they say they are fair, then they should have also condemned similar statements made by others. Our chairman’s words were not a call to violence or war,” he emphasized.
