Africa-Press – Sierra-Leone. The Sierra Leone People’s Party (SLPP) has announced that the reconvened elections for its National Young Generation Council (NYGC) will now be held at the party’s headquarters in Freetown on Sunday, June 29, 2025. This decision follows the disruption of the initial elections held in Bo on Saturday, June 21, 2025.
In a press statement issued on June 26, 2025, signed by National Secretary General Umaru Koroma, the party expressed deep concern over the incidents in Bo, stating that the overall environment “did not support a peaceful and credible electoral process.”
The statement noted that the process was disrupted, preventing the successful conclusion of the leadership transition within the party’s youth wing.
The SLPP unequivocally condemned the violence, stating, “The SLPP unequivocally condemns any form of violence, intimidation, or physical altercation in the conduct of our party’s affairs.”
The party emphasized that such actions are fundamentally at odds with its core values of respect, discipline, and tolerance, and stressed that “competition within a democratic framework is not a license for disorder.”
To restore confidence in the process and ensure a free and fair outcome, the party’s leadership resolved to relocate the elections for the positions of National Young Generation Leader, Deputy Leader, and Secretary to its national headquarters. The statement clarified that only accredited delegates, aspirants, and their official agents will be permitted to participate in the upcoming poll.
The party remains committed to internal democracy and the empowerment of young people. The statement commended aspirants and delegates who conducted themselves with restraint and maturity despite the tense environment.
It concluded by urging all members, particularly the youth, to uphold the principles of democratic engagement and to remain focused on the shared vision of unity, progress, and national service.
