Africa-Press – Sierra-Leone. The Publicity Secretary of the Sierra Leone People’s Party (SLPP), Moses Mambu, has sharply criticized the All People’s Congress (APC), accusing the opposition party of blatantly violating the country’s constitution.
Speaking in an exclusive interview with Liberty Online TV, Mambu recalled an incident in which a democratically elected vice president, who ran on the same ticket as the president, was dismissed “in broad daylight.” He described the act as “a total abuse of the constitution and a national disgrace.”
Mambu further noted that following the Supreme Court’s ruling on the matter, both the APC and the then-president ignored the decision. He added that Vice President Sam Sumana later took the case to the ECOWAS Court, which ruled that his removal was unlawful and that he should be granted all his entitled benefits.
“We have witnessed the constitution being abysmally abused by the All People’s Congress. In the history of Sierra Leone, nothing like this has ever occurred,” Mambu said.
He contrasted this with the administration of former President Ahmad Tejan Kabbah, noting that even during the 1996 power-sharing arrangement with RUF leader Foday Sankoh, Kabbah maintained his vice president throughout his first five-year term.
