Africa-Press – Sierra-Leone. Thomas Dixon, Managing Editor of the New Age newspaper, has issued a formal apology to Yusuf Abdul Silla, Managing Director of the Sierra Leone Commercial Bank (SLCB), for taking an unauthorized photograph of him during a court proceeding.

The incident occurred during Mr. Silla’s cross-examination in the ongoing legal matter between SLCB and the New Age newspaper. Without the court’s permission, Mr. Dixon discreetly captured an image of Mr. Silla in the witness box a move deemed inappropriate and disrespectful to the sanctity of the court.

In response, Mr. Silla’s legal team filed a motion for contempt, urging the court to consider imprisonment for Mr. Dixon. Recognizing the gravity of his actions, Mr. Dixon expressed deep remorse and extended an unreserved apology to Mr. Silla, the court, and the legal team, also acknowledging the involvement of Mohamed K. Fofanah, Managing Editor of the Gleaner newspaper.

Demonstrating leadership and grace, Mr. Silla accepted the apology, describing the incident as unfortunate while emphasizing the importance of mutual respect and professionalism in public discourse. Observers commended his calm and dignified response.

Presiding Judge Justice Adrian Fisher cautioned Mr. Dixon to uphold journalistic integrity and professionalism. He reiterated his earlier injunction barring publication of any material related to the ongoing case, stressing that the measure is intended to prevent further litigation while proceedings continue.

Mr. Dixon thanked Justice Fisher, Mr. Silla, and Lawyer Yada Williams and his team for their understanding and magnanimity.
