Africa-Press – Sierra-Leone. The National Publicity Secretary of the Sierra Leone People’s Party (SLPP), Moses Mambu, has stated the opposition All People’s Congress (APC) has never won any democratic elections in Sierra Leone whilst the SLPP was in good standing.

Mambu said this while commenting on recent remarks made by the ruling party’s Chairman, Jimmy Batilo Songa on 2028 elections.

Songa was reportedly quoted as urging the President, the Army, Soldiers, and Marshals to “stop the APC in 2028,” a remark that the APC criticized as a “troubling call for state security forces to engage in partisan political matters.”

A coalition of prominent civil society organisations (CSOs) has equally condemened the statement, warning against the politicization of the country’s security forces as the nation approaches the 2028 general elections.

Speaking on Liberty Online TV, Moses Mambu clarified that the statement of the SLPP Chairman were not only meant to inspire SLPP supporters but also directed at the main opposition, the All People’s Congress (APC).

Mambu explained that the Chairman’s statement aimed to rekindle party unity and reaffirm the SLPP’s political strength, while also serving as a reminder to the APC about the ruling party’s preparedness ahead of future political contests.

He further asserted that, in his personal view, the APC has never secured electoral victory in Sierra Leone through a fully democratic process, suggesting that past elections lacked fairness and transparency.

“The country knows the APC for propaganda. They played the trick in the 2007 elections by threatening Sierra Leoneans with war and brought fear into the voters. They have brought the same tactic ahead of 2028 trying to instill fear in the people.

“APC has never won any democratic election in this country when the SLPP is together. They only won election when SLPP had a breakaway in 1961 and in 2007 they used the Margai factor to win. 2012 we know it was Christianah Thorpe that cancelled over 477 polling stations for Ernest Bai Koroma to win his second term.”

Mambu’s comments come amid growing political discourse between the country’s two dominant parties as they both seek to strengthen their grassroots support ahead of upcoming elections.
