Africa-Press – Sierra-Leone. Vice President Dr. Juldeh Mohamed Jalloh has honored Superintendent of Police Zainab Mbalu Gbla, the recipient of the prestigious United Nations Women Police Officer Award, during a ceremony at his office in Freetown.

The formal presentation was led by Inspector General of Police, Mr. William Fayia Sellu.

In his remarks, Vice President Jalloh congratulated CSP Gbla on her remarkable achievement, emphasizing that it is a proud moment for her family, the Sierra Leone Police (SLP), and the nation as a whole.

“To hear the UN Secretary-General commend your work speaks volumes about your service,” he stated, praising her initiatives to introduce school programs in underserved areas and create new community crime reporting channels.

Dr. Jalloh also commended IGP Sellu for his commitment to gender representation and institutional reform within the police force, referencing the leadership of AIG Hilary Sao Kanu, who is currently serving with the African Union in Somalia, as a sign of progress. He reaffirmed the government’s dedication to increasing women’s participation in the security sector and announced plans for CSP Gbla to meet with President Julius Maada Bio upon his return.

The event was attended by the Minister of Gender and Children’s Affairs, Dr. Isata Mahoi, who described CSP Gbla as a source of national pride, asserting that her achievements would inspire other women in the security field.

IGP Sellu highlighted CSP Gbla’s career journey, noting her early academic success and her rise through various command positions as a testament to her consistent excellence.

Mr. Osman Benk Sankoh, Programme Communication and Advocacy Officer in the Office of the UN Resident Coordinator, read excerpts from the citation issued by the UN Secretary-General, praising Gbla’s significant contributions to international peacekeeping and community engagement.
