Africa-Press – South-Africa. The African National Congress (ANC) has granted its senior member Senzo Mchunu’s request to step away from his party duties following allegations linking him to suspected criminal Vusimuzi “Cat” Matlala.
ANC Secretary-General Fikile Mbalula announced at a media briefing on Tuesday that Mchunu will temporarily step away from his duties on the party’s national executive committee (NEC).
Mchunu had initially asked to be excused from his NEC duties while he dealt with the allegations, but his request was declined by the party.
Mbalula has confirmed that the party has now decided to grant Mchunu’s request to step back from his party responsibilities, at least for the time being.
“It is practically impossible not to agree to that request. That is what has guided the national working committee to grant Comrade Senzo his request to step aside from his party work pending the process that is being undertaken at the present moment. This is so that he has no burden on himself or the ANC.”
