Africa-Press – South-Africa. Criminally accused tender tycoon, Vusimuzi “Cat” Matlala, allegedly confessed to funding half-a-million-rand towards the presidential campaign of Senzo Mchunu.

Following his arrest in May, Matlala allegedly told investigators that he paid for flights and accommodation for African National Congress (ANC) delegates to attend the party’s January 8 celebrations in Cape Town.

Matlala, who was recorded during the conversation with investigators, confirmed that Mchunu had aspirations to become the country’s next president and that he was assisting with funding his campaign.

Matlala never communicated directly with Mchunu, but rather through an ANC fixer, Brown Mogotsi.

Mchunu told Parliament’s Ad Hoc Committee investiationg police corruption and interference that he never spoke or communicated with Matlala.

“In January, he had contributed to the total amount of R500,000, whereby he purchased flight tickets and paid for accommodation for members of the ANC who were going to Cape Town for the January 8th statement for the ANC.”
