Africa-Press – South-Africa. The Department of International Relations & Cooperation has confirmed that South Africa has officially handed over the G20 presidency to the United States of America (USA).

The handover process took place on Tuesday morning, however, it’s still not clear which official from Washington received it.

The White House boycotted the G20 Summit and instead sent a low-level delegation, led by a chargé d’affaires to receive the presidency.

President Cyril Ramaphosa’s spokesperson, Vincent Magwenya, previously told the media that South Africa would not be handing over the G20 presidency to a chargé d’affaires.

The US will officially assume its G20 presidency on 1 December 2025.
