Gauteng DA Calls for No-Confidence Motion Against Lesufi

Africa-Press – South-Africa. The Democratic Alliance (DA) in Gauteng is urging parties in the legislature to consider its motion of no confidence in Premier Panyaza Lesufi on its merits and stray from petty politics.

The DA wants Lesufi to be removed from his top post following a damning Public Protector’s report that found the provincial government established the Gauteng crime prevention wardens with no legal mandate.

For the motion to pass, the DA needs support from parties outside the governing coalition.

However, the uMkhonto weSizwe (MK) Party has stated it won’t work with the DA, while ActionSA and the Economic Freedom Fighters(EFF) have demanded apologies from the DA as a pre-requisite to engaging with them.

One of the DA’s senior leaders in Gauteng, Jack Bloom, said the party won’t resort to bootlickingto garner support for its motion.

“We not apologising to any other party. They must consider the motion on its merits. If they feel that Premier Panyaza Lesufi – despite flagrant illegalities, incompetence and corruption – deserves their support, then they must vote against it and if they think he needs to be removed, they must vote for it – it’s as simple as that.”
