Africa-Press – South-Africa. Preliminary projections from the Gauteng government show the province’s economy received an injection of between one to three billion rand from the G20 Summit.
The event saw heads of state and diplomats from across the globe flock to the province for a series of talks and events.
On Tuesday, the Gauteng government held a post-G20 media briefing where it declared the event a success.
The Gauteng government has declared the G20 Summit as a success. It says during the event there were no interruptions to water, electricity or sewage.
The OR Tambo International Airport reported high volumes ahead of the event as the world descended on Gauteng.
Gauteng Premier Panyaza Lesufi said the exposure received by the province during this time was priceless.
“Gauteng’s got an investment amount between one billion and three billion rand, even though we are still consolidating these figures from the hotels, travel agencies and institutions that share their statistics with our institutions. We can confirm almost all our hotels were fully booked.”
Gauteng’s finance department said final consolidated figures on G20’s economic impact will be announced during the medium budget statement early next year.
