Guterres Prioritizes Peace Talks at G20 Summit

Africa-Press – South-Africa. United Nations Secretary-General António Guterres says peace talks are high on his agenda when he meets with the G20 heads of state on Saturday.

Guterres is among the delegates that have landed in South Africa to attend the G20 Leaders’ Summit in Johannesburg this weekend.

He held a press conference at Nasrec in the south of Johannesburg on Friday ahead of the historic G20 summit.

The high-level meeting comes at a time when geopolitical tensions are at an all-time high, with protectionist policies testing global cooperation.

This includes conflicts in Africa and Europe.

Guterres said he will again raise his concerns when global leaders sit around the table on Saturday.

“We need action for peace. I will call on G20 members to use their voices and influence to end the conflicts that are causing so much deaths and destabilisation around the world. We must choose peace and be anchored in international law.”
