Africa-Press – South-Sudan. The Ministry of Finance and Planning has launched a three-week Monitoring and Evaluation, Accountability and Learning (MEAL) training programme aimed at strengthening accountability and improving public financial management.
According to a post on the Ministry’s official Facebook page, the training is designed to equip accountants with leadership skills in monitoring systems, development of standard operating procedures, and enhancement of accountability in public expenditure.
It also seeks to support the development of practical action plans for monitoring reforms within government institutions.
In his opening remarks, the Deputy Minister of Finance and Planning, Hon. Thok Turuk Thok, urged participants to fully engage with facilitators in order to acquire the required skills and become certified monitoring and evaluation professionals.
He described capacity building across all professions as essential for improving public service delivery.
The Ministry’s Technical Advisor, Hon. Simon Kiman, reaffirmed the institution’s commitment to building the capacity of accountants, noting that accountability and learning play a key role in improving government programme performance.
The Director General of the Government Accountancy Training Centre (GATC), Thomas Amudeng, and the Director of Tax Revenue and Records, Deng Athuai Hal, also addressed the opening ceremony.
They emphasized the importance of promoting accountability across Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs) to enhance efficiency and transparency in public financial management.
