Africa-Press – South-Sudan. The South Sudan National Bureau of Standards (SSNBS) has seized a smuggled consignment of maize flour at Nesitu Station after tests showed it contained dangerous levels of aflatoxins measuring 36.7 parts per billion (ppb).

In a statement dated December 13, SSNBS said, its officers intercepted a smuggled consignment of maize flour at Nesitu Station which laboratory tests found to contain high levels of aflatoxins measuring 36.7 parts per billion (ppb), exceeding the allowable safety limits.

The consignment has been detained in accordance with established safety and regulatory procedures, pending further action.

SSNBS has called on the public to support efforts to curb smuggling by reporting suspected illegal activities to the authorities.

The bureau reiterated its commitment to protecting public health by ensuring that only safe and quality products are allowed into South Sudan.
