Africa-Press – South-Sudan. A coalition of youth-led civil society groups has launched the Sout Al Shaab movement, a non-violent initiative aimed at promoting peaceful civic participation and advocating for equal rights equal rights for all citizens.

According to the organisers, Sout Al Shaab, an Arabic phrase loosely meaning “voice of the people,” is a non-violent, non-profit, and non-partisan movement established to influence policy, strengthen public decision-making, and mobilise citizens for collective action.

Speaking during the launch of the movement, Bol Deng Bol, a civil society activist and head of Intrepid South Sudan, says the group will focus on peaceful engagement through dialogues, mediation, capacity-building, public debates and forms of civil disobedience such as litigation and petitioning.

“Sout Al Shaab shall contribute to nation-building through non-violent national and grassroots engagement to promote voices, lead societal change, address injustices, and advocate for equal rights in social, political, and economic life in South Sudan,” he said.

He says the movement aims to provide peaceful ways of addressing injustices without resorting to violence.
