Africa-Press – Tanzania. THE ACT Wazalendo party has strongly condemned the decision by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to block its presidential candidate, Luhaga Mpina, from submitting his nomination forms.
The party claims the move is unconstitutional and raises serious concerns about the commission’s independence and integrity.
In an official letter signed by ACT Wazalendo’s Secretary General, Ado Shaibu, dated August 27, 2025, the party expressed shock over NEC’s correspondence issued on the same day. The INEC letter was reportedly based on a communication from the Office of the Registrar of Political Parties, which announced the nullification of Mpina’s candidacy.
“These decisions are not only shameful but also raise serious questions about the integrity, competence, professionalism, and independence of the commission, which has a constitutional mandate to operate autonomously,” the letter states in part.
ACT Wazalendo asserts that its candidate, Luhaga Mpina, had fully complied with all legal procedures, including collecting nomination forms from INEC on August 15, 2025, completing them, securing the required sponsors, and undergoing verification as required by electoral guidelines.
The submission of nomination forms and official nomination of presidential and vice-presidential candidates is taking place today, August 27, 2025, at the offices of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in Njedengwa, Dodoma.
This process is being conducted in accordance with Sections 50 and 62 of the Presidential, Parliamentary, and Councillors Elections Act No. 1 of 2024, read together with Regulations 23 and 26 of the 2025 Electoral Regulations.
