Africa-Press – Tanzania. The Chairman of the Zanzibar Electoral Commission (ZEC), Judge George Joseph Kazi, has urged political parties to conduct civilized campaigns, avoid violence, and refrain from using abusive language, slander, and incitement during the campaign period.

Speaking at a stakeholders’ meeting held at the ZEC offices in Maisara, Zanzibar Town, Judge Kazi emphasized that every political party has the duty to respect election laws and ethics in their campaigns.

The meeting was attended by political party leaders, civil society organizations, as well as security and defense forces. In his speech, Judge Kazi stressed the importance of political parties adhering to the agreed campaign schedule, including respecting the stipulated start and end times for rallies as required by the election laws and regulations.

“During this campaign period, political parties must be cautious to maintain peace in the country before, during, and after the elections. My call to all parties is to ensure they follow the laws, regulations, guidelines, and election ethics, conduct campaigns peacefully, and avoid hate speech, incitement, or threats,” said Judge Kazi.

Furthermore, he encouraged close cooperation between political parties, the Electoral Commission, and other stakeholders to ensure that the elections are conducted peacefully, calmly, and freely.
