Africa-Press – Tanzania. THE ACT-Wazalendo presidential candidate Othman Masoud Othman has officially collected nomination forms from the Zanzibar Electoral Commission (ZEC), vowing to campaign vigorously while maintaining his party’s opposition to early voting.
Speaking to journalists shortly after receiving the forms at ZEC headquarters, Maisara and later at the Party offices at Vuga, Othman said: “We will campaign peacefully and call upon all Zanzibaris to support us in safeguarding peace and stability. Our position remains clear, we continue to reject early voting, but we will not boycott the election.”
According to ZEC early voting (for security units and ZEC officers) to work on election day October 29, 2025, will vote early on October 28, but ACT-wazalendo argues, saying it is room for cheating in elections.
Mr Othman promised to run an issue-based campaign, highlighting what he described as shortcomings of the current administration, including the failure to preserve Zanzibar’s historical sites and cultural heritage.
Othman thanked his supporters for their continued loyalty and urged them to ensure victory for ACT-Wazalendo in this year’s polls, pledging better governance.
Meanwhile, ADA-TADEA presidential candidate Juma Ali Khatib also collected his forms, announcing his endorsement of CCM candidate Dr Hussein Ali Mwinyi, citing the incumbent’s “strong performance” over the past five years.
Sunday, August 31, 2025, also saw several other candidates pick up their nomination forms at ZEC offices. The exercise, which runs until September 10, a day before official campaigns begin, was launched by NCCR-Mageuzi’s Ms Laila Rajab Khamis.
Other candidates who have collected nomination forms include Ms Isha Salim Hamad of CCK and Mr Ali Mwalimu Abdalla of SAU and Mohammed Omar Shaame of Union For Multiparty Democracy (UMD).
