Africa-Press – Tanzania. A zeal to strengthen strategic cooperation in peace, security, good governance, economic development, and sustainable development areas heralded the 7th Summit of Heads of State and Government of the African Union (AU) and the European Union (EU) held in Luanda, Angola.
The summit also stressed the importance of enhancing political will on global issues.
The two-day summit also discussed extensively on the future of cooperation between Africa and Europe.
Tanzania’s delegation to the Summit was led by the Vice President of the United Republic of Tanzania, Dr Emmanuel Nchimbi.
Held from 24 to 25 November 2025, the Summit focused on strengthening strategic cooperation in the areas of peace, security, good governance, economic development, welfare and sustainable development, as well as the importance of enhancing political will on global issues.
During the meeting, AU and EU leaders agreed to jointly oversee efforts to maintain peace and resolve conflicts, alongside strengthening institutions responsible for security across Africa. The leaders emphasised good governance and diplomatic dialogue, acknowledging the importance of cooperation built on mutual respect and shared interests.
On migration and mobility, the Summit endorsed continued efforts to develop inclusive and sustainable systems that will enable safe and legal mobility, taking into account the social and economic needs of all the countries involved.
The Summit also broadly addressed efforts to boost Africa’s economy through industrial development, value addition to local products, and strengthening exports. Leaders from both sides agreed to continue advancing the implementation of the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA) to enhance competitiveness and accelerate regional market growth.
Recognising Africa’s natural resources, the Summit discussed the importance of strengthening value chains, particularly in adding value to critical and rare minerals needed in global industries. In this regard, the EU expressed willingness to work with Africa to build local industrial capacity and increase the continent’s participation in global value chains.
