Africa-Press – Tanzania. The Commonwealth Parliamentary Association (CPA) Africa Region has entered into a landmark agreement with CRJE (East Africa) Limited to construct a five-star hotel at Njedengwa in Dodoma.
The project, which will be the first of its kind under CPA Africa, is expected to be a reliable and sustainable source of income for the Association and a major boost to the capital city’s growing profile.
The contract was signed by Speaker of the National Assembly Dr Tulia Ackson on behalf of the Board of Commonwealth Investment Company Limited (CICL) while the CRJE (East Africa) was well represented by its Project Manager, Mr Lu Chunbao.
Speaking after signing the lucrative deal, Dr Tulia described the project as a historic milestone, recalling that the idea was first championed in 2019 by the late Speaker of the National Assembly, Mr Job Ndugai.
“We have waited for this project for years, and now construction is finally taking off. In doing so, we are also honouring the memory of the late Ndugai,” she said.
She stressed that the project coresponds with government plans to complete the Msalato International Airport, which will enable international flights to land directly in Dodoma.
“With the hotel in place, visiting dignitaries will have no need to travel back to Dar es Salaam for top-class accommodation,” she added.
The hotel will be run by Pristine Investment and aTime Hotels Limited, featuring executive suites and premium facilities.
CRDB Bank, as a lead financier, will head a consortium of banks working with CPA to finance the development.
Dr Tulia commended Dodoma Regional Commissioner, Ms Rosemary Senyamule for her support in securing land and other necessary approvals.
“This project is not only for CPA but for the nation. We appreciate the government’s readiness and believe its presence here in Dodoma will ensure effective follow-up of this investment,” she said.
The project is expected to take 22 months to complete, with Dr Tulia urging contractors to deliver within the stipulated timeline.
“We want this project to provide funds for CPA, and for that to happen, you must deliver. We believe in 22 months it will be a different story,” she added.
Treasurer of the CPA Africa Region, Mr Enos Asiimwe, praised the leadership of Dr Tulia in mobilising 19 member parliaments to approve and resource the project.
“This is the first investment of its kind for CPA Africa and we look forward to its success. It was not an easy process, but through the Speaker’s efforts and support from the Tanzanian government, we are here today,” he said.
Regional Secretary of the CPA Africa Region, Mr Baraka Leonard, echoed the sentiments, saying the five-star hotel project was more than just a construction venture.
“It is a testament to our shared commitment to leaving a lasting legacy that will benefit the Association, parliaments and the entire CPA fraternity. Today marks a turning point in CPA Africa’s history as we embark on a visionary and transformational project,” he said.
