Africa-Press – Tanzania. THE President of Zanzibar, Dr. Hussein Mwinyi, has emphasized the need for enhanced cooperation and the implementation of economic diplomacy between Zanzibar and Japan.
President Mwinyi made these remarks today when he met with Tanzania’s Ambassador to Japan, Anderson Mutatembwa, at the State House in Unguja. Ambassador Mutatembwa paid a courtesy visit to bid farewell before officially assuming his diplomatic duties in Japan.
Dr. Mwinyi congratulated Ambassador Mutatembwa on his appointment and wished him success, urging him to focus on priority areas that would strengthen bilateral cooperation and attract investment.
He noted that Japan has many potential investors and that Zanzibar is open to welcoming them, especially in the blue economy. He highlighted opportunities in seafood export, marine products, tourism, sports, and the oil and gas sectors.
President Mwinyi also informed the Ambassador that another key area is the seaweed trade, mentioning that a Japanese company has already expressed interest in supplying Zanzibar with a processing machine for seaweed, to export the product to Japan.
He further stressed that the blue economy remains a major area of focus, and Zanzibar aims to establish industries that will process and produce marine-based products. He called for efforts to attract more Japanese investors to contribute to this vision.
In response, Ambassador Mutatembwa assured President Mwinyi of his commitment to actively pursue opportunities for economic cooperation in Japan and to facilitate projects that would benefit Tanzania, including Zanzibar, in sectors such as infrastructure, health, water, and trade.
