Africa-Press – Tanzania. THE Union for Multiparty Democracy (UMD) presidential candidate, Mwajuma Noty Milambo officially launched her campaign over the weekend, pledging to prioritise the welfare of children and youth by fostering patriotism through a supportive upbringing and access to essential services.

Launching her campaign at Mirambo Bus Terminal in Muheza, Tanga Region, Ms Milambo, accompanied by her running mate, Mashavu Alawi Haji declared that under a UMD government, Tanzanian children would be raised in environments that promote genuine patriotism, not just through words, but through dignified living conditions.

“We need to raise children who become patriots by experience, not by mere slogans. Patriotism cannot grow in the streets, it must be nurtured in homes, schools and communities where children feel protected and valued,” she said.

Ms Milambo promised that within the first 100 days of her presidency, her government would establish an equitable and robust education system that ensures no child is left behind.

“Education should be a service, not a commodity. Under UMD, all children, regardless of their background, will have access to quality education,” she said.

She said that poverty, distance and lack of infrastructure should no longer be reasons for children missing school or dropping out.

She also lamented inadequate opportunities for youth, leading to a rise in drug use, human trafficking and a growing population of street children.

Ms Milambo assured voters that her administration would unlock domestic opportunities, reducing the need for Tanzanian youth to seek employment abroad.

“Our youth deserve opportunities here at home. We will make Tanzania work for all of us, not just a few,” she said.

On health, Ms Milambo pledged to transform the healthcare sector, ensuring the availability of medical equipment, essential medicines and quality services across the country.

She also promised free maternal and child healthcare, funded through revenues from Tanzania’s vast natural resources.

“Healthcare is not just about buildings. It’s about saving lives. We will ensure services reach people where they are,” she said.

She further pledged to improve the welfare of doctors and health workers to enhance service delivery.

The UMD candidate promised to revise the pension formula and introduce a basic allowance for all senior citizens to help them meet daily needs.

“No elderly person should live in poverty or loneliness. We will offer care, shelter and free healthcare to those without family support,” Ms Milambo said.

On the economy, Ms Milambo vowed to ensure that Tanzania’s natural resources benefit all citizens, with development driven by strong planning, community involvement and improved infrastructure.

In agriculture, she promised to modernise the sector by promoting commercial farming tailored to regional strengths, ensuring access to markets, quality seeds and technical support.

“Farming must become profitable. With proper support, it can uplift individuals and power national development,” she said.

In the livestock sector, UMD will support pastoralists by improving market access and infrastructure, thereby boosting rural economies.

Ms Milambo proposed using funds from the 10 per cent council loan scheme allocated for youth, women and persons with special needs to drill boreholes in every neighbourhood.

“This would help reduce the burden women face in searching for clean water daily,” she said.

“I understand the struggles women face accessing water, healthcare and financial support. Development doesn’t ask which party you belong to; we all feel these hardships. If you want them to end, vote for UMD,” she said.
