Africa-Press – Tanzania. THE Government of Finland has announced a €20 million/- grant to support Tanzania’s forestry, sustainable land use
This funding is part of Finland’s commitment to support the efforts of the Tanzanian President, Samia Suluhu Hassan, in addressing climate change and protecting her country’s environment.
The announcement was made by the President of Finland, Alexander Stubb, today, May 16, 2025, during the official launch of the Forestry, Land Use and Value Chain Development in Tanzania (FORLAND) project held in Dar es Salaam.
Speaking at the launch ceremony, President Stubb stated that the funding aims to enhance forest conservation, promote sustainable land use, and empower rural communities through sustainable agriculture initiatives.
“Finland recognizes the importance of the forestry and land sectors to Tanzania’s economic development and environmental sustainability. Through this funding, we aim to support government and community efforts in conserving and advancing these critical resources for the benefit of current and future generations,” said President Stubb.
On her part, Tanzania’s Minister for Natural Resources and Tourism, Dr. Pindi Chana, expressed gratitude to the Government of Finland, emphasizing that the support will accelerate the implementation of conservation strategies and reduce environmental degradation.
“This funding will strengthen our capacity to combat deforestation, reduce carbon emissions, and improve the livelihoods of communities that depend on forest and land resources,” said Dr. Chana.
To conclude the event, President Stubb participated in a tree planting exercise at the Botanical Garden in Dar es Salaam. The ceremony was also attended by the Minister for Foreign Affairs and East African Cooperation, Ambassador Mahmoud Thabit Kombo, the Minister for Natural Resources and Tourism, Dr. Pindi Chana, the Dar es Salaam Regional Commissioner, Albert Chalamila, and other senior government officials.
The FORLAND project is expected to be a key driver in advancing sustainable development and climate resilience in Tanzania.
