Tanzania’s Water Minister elected to lead ZAMCOM

Africa-Press – Tanzania. THE Tanzanian Minister for Water, Jumaa Aweso, has been elected as the new Chairperson of the Council of Ministers of the Zambezi Watercourse Commission (ZAMCOM) for the 2025/2026 term.

The appointment was made on May 15, 2025, during the 12th meeting of the Commission held in Windhoek, Namibia. Tanzania was represented at the meeting by Ambassador Caesar Chacha Waitara.

ZAMCOM is a regional cooperation platform comprising eight member states: Tanzania, Angola, Botswana, Malawi, Mozambique, Namibia, Zambia, and Zimbabwe. The Commission aims to promote joint and sustainable management of water resources in the Zambezi River Basin for the social and economic benefit of the region’s populations.

The election of Hon. Aweso as Chairperson of ZAMCOM reflects the confidence placed in Tanzania’s leadership in advancing regional cooperation and its strong commitment to the protection and sustainable management of water sources for long-term development.
