Africa-Press – Tanzania. TAIFA Stars Head Coach Miguel Gamondi says the upcoming international friendly against Kuwait on Saturday will serve as a crucial test of character and quality as Tanzania continue with preparations ahead of the AFCON 2027 finals.
The friendly match at Al Salam Stadium in Egypt comes at a pivotal time as the national team sharpens its tactics and chemistry under the Argentine strategist’s guidance.
“This friendly is more than just a match; it’s a mirror reflecting each player’s ability, mentality, and readiness,” said Gamondi. “We want to see how individuals respond under pressure, how they fit into the team’s structure, and how ready they are for the challenges ahead.”
Gamondi revealed that after wrapping up the current FIFA calendar fixtures, the Taifa Stars will regroup in December to launch a more intensive preparation phase ahead of the continental showdown.
“December is when our AFCON project truly begins and we’ll use that period to refine the squad and build a team capable of competing at the highest level,” he affirmed.
The tactician noted that the current squad combines experienced internationals and rising young talents from clubs such as JKT Tanzania and Simba SC, providing a healthy balance of leadership and ambition.
“We’ve created a blend, youth learning from experience, and experience refreshed by youthful energy and this camp is a laboratory for learning, not just for players but for everyone involved,” Gamondi explained.
Although injuries to key players Feisal Salum and Haji Mnoga have presented minor challenges, Gamondi said the team remains mentally focused and united.
“Injuries are temporary; our mission is long-term,” he remarked. “Every training session is a lesson — our mindset is strong, and our focus is fixed on AFCON 2027.”
The Argentine coach, who previously guided Yanga SC and currently coaching Singida BS, spoke passionately about his emotional connection with Tanzania and his pride in leading the national team.
“I’m honoured to represent Tanzania and the badge means more than a symbol — it represents the trust of millions. This country has become a part of my heart,” Gamondi said warmly.
He emphasized that the camp in Egypt is not solely about tactical drills but about forging unity, discipline, and belief among players and staff.
“We are building more than a team; we are building a family — one that fights together, learns together, and dreams together,” he said.
Team Captain Shomari Kapombe echoed his coach’s sentiments, commending the positive energy in camp and the commitment from players to embrace Gamondi’s philosophy.
“Training has been intense but exciting and we’re adapting well to the new technical bench, learning every day, and preparing to give our best. The Kuwait match will show us where we stand and what we must improve before AFCON,” Kapombe noted.
