Africa-Press – Tanzania. KISARAWE Member of Parliament, Selemani Jafo, has proposed the establishment of a special short-term employment program for youth, aimed at addressing the challenge of unemployment among graduates in the country.

Speaking during a parliamentary debate in Dodoma on April 9, 2026, Jafo suggested that the government introduce an annual program to employ 50,000 young people, targeting two categories of graduates those with diplomas and those with university degrees.

Under the proposal, diploma holders would be offered temporary employment with a monthly salary of 500,000/-, while degree holders would receive 700,000/- per month. He explained that these positions would be structured under three-year contracts to provide practical work experience and enhance graduates’ competitiveness in the job market.

Jafo emphasized that the initiative could serve as a transitional solution to bridge the gap between education and employment, while equipping young people with hands-on skills required across various sectors of the economy.
