Africa-Press – Tanzania. THE Former Malawian President and Special Envoy of the Commonwealth Secretary-General, Lazarus Chakwera, has met Tanzania’s Minister for Foreign Affairs and East African Cooperation, Mahmoud Thabit Kombo, in Dar es Salaam as he begins his official engagements in the country.
The meeting, held on April 9, 2026, was part of a formal welcome for Chakwera and marked the start of a series of scheduled consultations with various government and development stakeholders during his visit.
He is also expected to hold discussions with a government delegation at the Julius Nyerere International Convention Centre (JNICC) as part of his working programme.
Chakwera is accompanied in his role by the Commonwealth Secretary-General’s Special Envoy, Shirley Ayorkor Botchwey, as the visit focuses on strengthening diplomatic engagement and cooperation among Commonwealth member states.
