Africa-Press – Tanzania. THE Tanzanian President, Samia Suluhu Hassan, has donated 50m/- to support the construction of the Catholic Church of Saint Mary Mother of God Parish at Kibwigwa in Kibondo District, Kigoma Region.
President Samia donated the funds during the fundraising event for the church’s construction, which raised over 250m/-.
Announcing the results of the fundraiser, the Director General of Tanzania Railways Corporation (TRC), Masanja Kadogosa, who served as the guest of honour, also contributed 20m/- for the project. Kadogosa explained that President Samia donated it out of goodwill after being requested by the Bishop of the Catholic Diocese of Kigoma, Bishop Joseph Mlola.
During the event, President Samia also received support from the GSM Company Chairman, Gharib Mohamed.
Additionally, parishioners who are fans of Tanzania’s football giants, Simba and Young Africans, actively participated in the fundraiser.
Young Africans fans contributed 528,000/- while Simba fans donated 362,000/-, making a combined total of 890,000/-.
Earlier, Bishop Joseph Mlola expressed his gratitude to President Samia for her generosity and compassion toward all people regardless of their circumstances. He also extended appreciation to everyone who contributed to the success of the fundraising, especially TRC Director General Masanja Kadogosa for his leadership and coordination.
