Africa-Press – Tanzania. THE Minister of Defense and National Service, Dr. Stergomena Lawrence Tax, has congratulated President Samia Suluhu Hassan after being awarded the High Honour of the International Military Sports Council (CISM), describing her as an exceptional and exemplary leader in Africa.
President Samia received the prestigious award today, August 14, 2025, during a special ceremony held at the State House in Dar es Salaam. The event was attended by various national and international leaders, including the CISM President’s representative, Major General Maikano Abdullahi from Nigeria.
According to Dr. Stergomena, the honor recognizes President Samia’s significant contribution to promoting military sports and marks a historic milestone. Since the award was established in 1952, President Samia has become the seventh leader worldwide and the first woman in Africa to receive it.
“We have every reason to be proud. This is a great honor for our nation and affirms how our President is recognized internationally for her efforts in strengthening cooperation through military sports,” said Dr. Stergomena.
The CISM High Honor is awarded to national leaders who demonstrate outstanding contributions to the development of military sports and the promotion of international solidarity through sports.
