Africa-PressTanzania. PRESIDENT Samia Suluhu Hassan will take the first shot of the Johnson & Johnson coronavirus vaccine at the State House in Dar es Salaam this Wednesday, a government official said in a statement.

Minister of Health, Community Development, Gender, Elderly and Children Dr. Dorothy Gwajima announced that President Samia will take the shot at the launch of a public vaccination program against infectious disease.

“She will be vaccinated,” Dr. Gwajima said in a statement. The launch will enable the Ministry of Health to coordinate the distribution of the vaccine in facilities nationwide.

Tanzania received 1,058,400 doses of Janssen vaccine, which were imported into the country through the COVAX Facility program.

The Ministry of Health has not identified the number and location of these specialized centers that will be responsible for vaccination.

Dr. Gwajima said, “The launch of the vaccination exercise makes history for our nation in continuing the fight against COVID-19 as a specific addition to other interventions including handwashing with clean running water and soap, wearing masks in hazardous areas, doing exercise, and access to nutrition.”

Adding, this is in addition to the use of natural remedies registered with the Traditional and Alternative Medicine Council.”

Following the launch of this exercise, the Government hopes to continue to administer vaccinations against COVID-19 to ensure that more Tanzanians are vaccinated.
