Africa-Press – Tanzania. THE government has officially launched a Horti Logistica Africa Council that will bring together stakeholders from the global horticulture industry across Africa to witness the production and economic growth of the horticultural sector.
Launching the council in Dar es Salaam on Wednesday, during the General Conference on Agriculture and Agribusiness for Horticultural Crops, the Permanent Secretary in the Prime Minister’s Office (Policy, Parliament and Coordination), Dr Jim Yonazi, stated that the council will be held every November in the country.
Additionally, he stated that the council will serve as a platform for learning about the challenges, successes, and opportunities of the industry from the farm to the market.
The Horti Logistica Africa is organised by the Tanzania Horticultural Association (TAHA) in collaboration with the Ministry of Agriculture.
Dr Yonazi further commended the Ministry of Agriculture and the TAHA for advancing and promoting the horticultural sector in the country by implementing the vision and direction of the agricultural sector in systems, markets, and skills.
Moreover, he stated that the government will continue to collaborate with the private sector to improve infrastructure for storage, transportation, and markets to boost horticulture, which provides employment opportunities for youth and women.
