Africa-Press – Tanzania. THE Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs and East African Cooperation, Cosato Chumi, represented the Minister of Foreign Affairs and East African Cooperation, Ambassador Mohamoud Thabit Kombo, at the celebrations marking the 80th anniversary of Vietnam’s independence held in Dar es Salaam. The event also commemorated 60 years of cooperation between Tanzania and Vietnam.
Speaking at the event, Deputy Minister Chumi praised Vietnam for its social and economic achievements attained through hard work, resilience, and steady reforms. He noted that Vietnam has built a strong and sustainable economy over the past 80 years and aims to become a developed country by 2045.
Chumi also emphasized the importance of the longstanding partnership between Tanzania and Vietnam in various sectors including investment, trade, education, health, agriculture, and science and technology development over the past six decades. He added that Tanzania values the historical efforts and contributions of both countries and their citizens in strengthening bilateral relations.
Statistics show that Vietnam is the seventh largest market for Tanzanian products, with exports increasing from USD 226.6 million in 2020 to USD 314.2 million in 2024, reflecting a 38% growth over the past five years.
On his part, the Vietnamese Ambassador to Tanzania, Vu Thanh Huyen, pledged to further deepen close cooperation with Tanzania, highlighting the importance of boosting trade, investment, and technological development as key drivers for the economic growth of both nations.
Diplomatic relations between Tanzania and Vietnam were established in 1965 and have successfully strengthened bilateral and multilateral cooperation since then.
