Africa-Press – Tanzania. THE Deputy Minister for Transport, David Kihenzile, has inaugurated a new reach stacker machine for the Zambian company Zambia Cargo and Logistics Limited (ZCL) at Mukuba Depot in Dar es Salaam, highlighting it as a key step in strengthening Tanzania-Zambia cooperation in the transport sector.

Speaking at the event, Kihenzile praised ZCL for increasing its cargo throughput from 15,649 containers in 2021 to over 40,000 containers in 2025, a move that reflects efficiency and substantial investment in the infrastructure of the Port of Dar es Salaam.

The Deputy Minister also stated that Tanzania continues to improve port, rail, road, and border infrastructure to promote regional trade. Among these projects are the construction of the Standard Gauge Railway (SGR), upgrades to the Dar es Salaam Port, and the expansion of Mtwara Port.

Additionally, Kihenzile urged Zambia to expedite the opening of the Nakonde One Stop Border Post to reduce vehicle congestion in the Tunduma–Nakonde area.

The event was also attended by Sylvester Kanyika, representative of the Director General of the Tanzania Shipping Agencies Corporation (TASAC), who said the investment ensures that Zambia’s cargo transport chain through Dar es Salaam remains more reliable and secure.

Kanyika added that TASAC will continue collaborating with stakeholders in the maritime transport sector to ensure compliance with legal procedures, maritime safety, and service quality.
