Africa-Press – Tanzania. THE Parliamentary Standing Committee on Energy and Minerals visited the main natural gas filling station, Mlimani-CNG, in Dar es Salaam to learn how the station operates and delivers services to the public.

The committee also advised the government to increase efforts to promote the use of natural gas in the country.

Speaking during the visit to the station, which is managed by the Tanzania Petroleum Development Corporation, the Committee Chair, Subira Mgalu, said natural gas plays a significant role in boosting the country’s economy by providing affordable and environmentally friendly energy.

She urged the government to increase the use of natural gas in vehicles and homes to reduce reliance on petrol and diesel. She also encouraged investors to invest more in CNG infrastructure so that a larger number of citizens can access and benefit from the service.

Additionally, the committee recommended that the government establish regulations to ensure public institution vehicles use CNG, a move that would help reduce fuel costs and increase efficiency in the use of public funds. The committee also called on TPDC to expand natural gas filling stations nationwide to meet growing demand.

On her part, the Deputy Minister of Energy, Salome Makamba, said they received the committee chair’s directives and pledged to act on them. She added that TPDC, through the Ministry of Energy, continues to expand CNG services to various parts of the country to bring the service closer to citizens.

She emphasized that the government is committed to strengthening the availability of natural gas, a step that will help reduce transportation costs, increase the use of clean energy, and stimulate national economic growth.
