He also inquired whether the government had plans to provide loans to teachers for purchasing motorcycles to help them commute to their workplaces.
In her response, Ms Katimba listed several initiatives aimed at improving teachers’ working conditions.
She noted that under the sixth phase government, a total of 860 teachers’ houses have been constructed over the past four years. Additionally, the government has invested approximately 5.1tri/- in the basic education sector during the same period.
She added that the government has already begun distributing motorcycles to ward education officers across the country and will continue to take steps to enhance the working environment for teachers.

Looking ahead, the government has set aside 5.5bn/- in the 2025/2026 fiscal year for the construction of another 54 houses.
Ms Katimba emphasised that the government will continue to allocate funds both for new housing projects and for completing structures initiated through community efforts.
Priority will be given to areas with the greatest need, depending on the availability of resources.
