Africa-Press – Tanzania. VICE-President, Dr Emmanuel Nchimbi said yesterday that the nation has suffered a great loss following the passing of the former Member of Parliament for Peramiho, Jenista Mhagama.
He said the late MP and former cabinet minister was a respected leader who served the nation with patriotism and dedication for many years in various capacities.
Dr Nchimbi was speaking at the late Mhagama’s home at Itaga area in Dodoma City where he went to offer his condolences.
He said that although she was the MP for Peramiho Constituency, the late Mhagama also contributed significantly to the Chama Cha Mapinduzi and oversaw development efforts in the Ruvuma Region as a whole.
The Vice-President expressed his condolences to the family and mourners, praying that God gives her children and loved ones the strength to accept the loss and understand that death is a journey we all must face.
Meanwhile, top government leaders, including Vice-President Dr Nchimbi and Prime Minister Dr Mwigulu Nchemba, are today expected to bid farewell to the late Peramiho lawmaker, Mhagama, during a requiem mass to be held at the Roman Catholic Church’s Kiwanja cha Ndege Parish in Dodoma.
A timetable from the National Assembly in Dodoma listed other leaders set to attend the service and deliver condolence messages, including Speaker Mussa Azzan Zungu, Dodoma Regional Commissioner Ms Rosemary Senyamule and a representative of Ruvuma Region lawmaker.
After the service, according to the schedule, the body of the former Minister for Health will be transported to Songea in Ruvuma, with the first stop at her home at Makambi, before being moved to the Roman Catholic Church’s Matogoro Parish for another requiem mass to be held tomorrow. The body will later be returned home on the same day.
On Monday, December 15, 2025, the body of the longest-serving Peramiho MP will be taken to her constituency, with the main stop at Peramiho Parish for a Requiem Mass that will also be attended by top government leaders and the general public.
According to the timetable, leaders expected to attend the service and pay their final respects include Vice-President, Dr Nchimbi, Prime Minister Dr Nchemba, Speaker Zungu, Ruvuma Regional Commissioner and a representative of Ruvuma Regional lawmakers.
On the same day, Peramiho residents will have an opportunity to bid farewell to their fallen MP at St Joseph Peramiho, before the body of the outspoken legislator is returned home.
On December 16, the convoy will proceed to Ruanda Village in Mbinga District for the burial service, marking the end of Mhagama’s era.
Following her passing, President Samia Suluhu Hassan joined other Tanzanians in mourning the death of MP Mhagama who died on Thursday in Dodoma aged 58.
