JKT SUSPENDS 12,000 YOUTHS ON VERGE OF TRAINING

AfricaPress-Tanzania: THE National Service (JKT) has suspended training for at least 12,000 youth recruits who were due to begin their volunteering training in different camps countrywide.

In this regard, the National Service has ordered all the people, who had already reported to their training camps to go back to their homes until further notice.

The abrupt decision was announced at a news conference here by the Acting Head of Administration, Colonel Hassan Mabena.

Although he did not divulge into details, Col Mabena said the move came because of internal administrative reasons within the army.

In August last year, the Chief of the National Service (CNS), Major General Charles Mbuge, announced to all youths in the Mainland Tanzania and Zanzibar to seize the opportunity to join the Nation Building Army training for 2020/2021.

The process for the youth to apply and eventually be selected to join the training was coordinated by the Offices of the Regional and District Commissioners, where an applicant resides.

However, yesterday, Col Mabena said that the training had been temporality suspended, noting: “Due to the fact that we have suspended this training, the National Service wants all youth who were selected and who had already reported to different camps to receive volunteering training to go back to their homes.

“Those who are yet to report to camps should remain in their homes until it is announced otherwise.”

The national service has for many years been training youth volunteers countrywide, who are thereafter trained to depend and employ themselves after the end of the contract with JKT.

Some of them have been employed in other security organs upon completion of their training.
