AfricaPress-Tanzania: LEADERS Azam FC said the recent 1-1 draw posted by their key title contenders in the unfolding Premier League campaign Young Africans and Simba has not affected them in any way.
Azam who navigate the league table with 25 points will face their first big test of the season against Yanga immediately after the FIFA international break in the eleventh round of the contest.
The game which is expected to be played at Azam Complex in the outskirts of Dar es Salaam has already been described by pundits as a must win for each team which are separated by one point.
Speaking in the city recently, Azam’s Information Officer Thabit Zakaria said the stamped stalemate has nothing to do with them while reiterating that it is too early to begin thinking about winning the championship.
“The fact that we are leading the table is not a guarantee that we will win the title since the marathon is still at a tender stage. “We will be rotating the first position with other teams on the ladder and the side which will be leading the log towards the end of the season is the one likely to win the silverware,” he said.
He continued: “For now, the most important thing is to cherish about your team’s results and not what other teams are producing that is why for now, the top post at the table has no permanent occupant.” According to him, Azam players who were not called by their respective national team squads ahead of the upcoming Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) matches regrouped on Monday to resume training sessions.
“After our game against Dodoma FC, players were given a brief break and will report for training sessions on Monday for continuation of training programmes. “The coach will use this period to repair the squad where necessary since if they can be left out without practicing, definitely, their level of performance can be dwarfed,” he noted.
Commenting further about the Yanga match, Zakaria said it will be a difficult encounter as it normally becomes whenever they face each other in the league.
“We will approach the game knowing that we have a good team which can give us tangible results to make out fans happy since our target to be crowned champions at the end of the season is unchanged,” he said
