AfricaPress-Tanzania: Tanzania Premier League side Yanga SC financial worries were on Sunday calmed when GSM committed to bankrolling the club within and outside their partnership agreement.
This was announced yesterday by GSM’s Director of Operations Eng. Hersi Said in a joint press conference with Yanga chairman Dr Mshindo Msolla.
GSM is a Dar es Salaam-based logistics company dealing in shipping, manufacturing, retail and travel services.
Eng Hersi said that GSM will focus on helping the Tanzanian giants in paying player salaries and allowances, technical support, training ground development and helping the club adopt modern operating ways.
The move follows Yanga’s decision to suspend Executive Committee members who had questioned the club’s arrangement with GSM that led to the temporary suspension of funding of club’s sports equipment.
The members who were pushed out of the club include Shijja Richard, Said Kambi and Rodgesr Gumbu. The club also suspended Salim Rupia and Frank Kamugisha on March 26.
After the exit of the five, a new committee was set up that will be led by Dr Msolla and assisted by Frederick Mwakalebela. Other members of the new committee include Hamad Islam, Eng Bahati Faison, Dominick Ikute, Arafat HAji and Saad Khimji.
