AfricaPress-Tanzania: Yanga’s locomotive midfielder Mukoko Tonombe has denied claims linking him to join South African side Kaizer Chiefs saying they are baseless.

He made the remarks in Dar es Salaam after landing back from his native country DR Congo where he had gone to fulfill national team responsibilities in their Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) duels.

“I am surprised with such claims through social media platforms but personally, I have no idea where they are coming from.
“At the moment, I have a contract at Yanga such that in case of anything, then it is my club which will let me know and thereafter release me. But for now, the rumours are not true,” he said.

Tonombe joined Yanga at the start of the season from DR Congo side AS Vita and has been among the best performing players at the club and in the entire Mainland Premier League.

He has also been on record scoring decisive goals for his team without forgetting the long range equalising strike against Kagera Sugar which saw the game ending 3-3 at Benjamin Mkapa Stadium in the city.
With few games to go before the end of the season, Yanga are still hopeful that they can clinch the championship at the end of the tight

Meanwhile the Disciplinary Committee of the Tanzania Football Federation (TFF) has slapped a five year suspension to Young Africans Vice-Chairman Fredrick Mwakalebela for breaching code of ethics.

He is therefore not allowed to engage in any football related activities both within and outside the country throughout the prescribed time.

According to the statement released and signed by the federation’s Media and Communications Officer Clifford Ndimbo, Mwakalebela has further been fined 5m/- for allegedly uttering remarks aimed at causing misunderstandings between the club’s fans and members with football governing bodies in the country.

Part of the statement said: “On February 19th, Mwakalebela conducted a press conference where he accused TFF, the Tanzania Premier League Board (TPLB) and its Committee that they are biased in cases involving Yanga, a thing he failed to prove during the day hearing.”

It further added that in the second case, Mwakalebela on October 1st last year summoned a press briefing whereby he said he had a contract between Bernard Morrison and Simba and showed reporters the contract while he knew that it was false and contrary to the code of ethics.

“The disciplinary committee has given him a stern warning not to repeat the same mistake for five years and fined him 2m/- in the process for misconduct,” it said.
